Nel cuore della Cambogia, sulle acque fangose del lago Tonlé Sap, vive una comunità sospesa tra acqua e cielo. Sono i “shoeless people”, uomini, donne e bambini che abitano in case galleggianti, allevano pitoni e coccodrilli, e si spostano con le stagioni seguendo il respiro del lago. Durante la stagione secca, quando il livello dell’acqua si abbassa drasticamente, le loro abitazioni vengono trainate più al centro del bacino, dove l’acqua, densa e marrone, si fa fango vivo.
In the heart of Cambodia, on the muddy waters of Lake Tonlé Sap, lives a community suspended between water and sky. They are the “shoeless people”: men, women, and children who inhabit floating homes, raise pythons and crocodiles, and move with the seasons, following the rhythm of the lake. During the dry season, when water levels drop dramatically, they tow their houses further out into the basin, where the water turns thick and brown, almost alive with silt.
